I think advocating for due process is pretty explicitly stating that the law does matter, as opposed to meeting with the @FBI and @nytimes in the oval office about the best way to plant evidence and stage photographs...

Yes actually, the law does matter, so when a special master is appointed in accordance with the right to due process we are content with that. You however, seem not to think the law matters.
