This is why you should not take your Soviet history lessons from a self-help writer. Not only did the United States try to help Gorbachev, he wasn't in power after the Soviet collapse, and we then went all-in for Yeltsin, including getting Russia into the G-7.
Mikhail Gorbachev was a visionary leader. The refusal of the U.S. to help Russia when the Soviet Union collapsed was typical of America's arrogance and lack of visionary foreign policy. If we had helped Gorbachev then, Russia's path would probably have not been toward a Putin.

You have no idea what kind of writer I am because you have never read my books. (You should never take your advice from someone who gets their opinions secondhand from the internet.) It was Gorbachev who allowed the breakup of the Soviet Union. Of course he was in power.

A larger follower count does not make you intelligent or informed on a subject matter. Based on the replies, this does not appear to be your first attempt at a faceplant, either. Also, "allowed the breakup". OMFG. Read a book on the subject. Tom Nichols wrote some good ones.🤦‍♂️
He’s actually a warfare strategist and expert on Russian relations, but do tell him how he is wrong here. I have a few of your books. I follow Tom’s work in @TheAtlantic. They’re not the same. Rule 1 in engagement: Know thine enemy - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_…

Shutting up now would be the best thing for you. Your ignorance and willingness to display it when dealing with someone with far more expertise than you isn't going to bring you any positive results.
Yo, ding-dong, his job title was literally Sovietologist
This is my favorite part every single time!!
