This is why you should not take your Soviet history lessons from a self-help writer. Not only did the United States try to help Gorbachev, he wasn't in power after the Soviet collapse, and we then went all-in for Yeltsin, including getting Russia into the G-7.
Mikhail Gorbachev was a visionary leader. The refusal of the U.S. to help Russia when the Soviet Union collapsed was typical of America's arrogance and lack of visionary foreign policy. If we had helped Gorbachev then, Russia's path would probably have not been toward a Putin.

You have no idea what kind of writer I am because you have never read my books. (You should never take your advice from someone who gets their opinions secondhand from the internet.) It was Gorbachev who allowed the breakup of the Soviet Union. Of course he was in power.

You’re in a strong position here. Double down, this Nichols guy got nothin but expertise in Russian affairs.
Arrogance does not become you, luftmensch.
Marianne Williamson, the woman who decided mansplaining desperately needed a distaff counterpart @tvtropes
You ran for President without knowing anything about the history of the end of USSR, during which you were alive and claiming AIDS was based on some negative energy nonsense. Please.
😳🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How wrong you are is hilarious. You are arguing with people who were there and have studied the issues to exhaustion. Question is, can you live your teachings and humble yourself enough to admit error and listen to people who know more than you - or will you just gaslight?
Marianne. Tom, while a “know it all” is an actual factual expert in Russia. Like expert expert. Imagine if someone skimmed the first few pages of A Course In Miracles and then tried to explain the content to you. Yeah. That’s what you are doing. You are way out of your depth
Step away from the pipe Marianne.
