Mikhail Gorbachev was a visionary leader. The refusal of the U.S. to help Russia when the Soviet Union collapsed was typical of America's arrogance and lack of visionary foreign policy. If we had helped Gorbachev then, Russia's path would probably have not been toward a Putin.

The weird things people complain about. Basically it's America's fault that Russia is the way it is, because we didn't help them after they lost the cold war. 1. You're ignoring years of Russian aggression to other countries 2. Your speculation isn't valid criticism.

Gorbachev was out upon the dissolution of the USSR and considered an abject failure in Russia. His only goal in “ending the Cold War” and thawing relations with the West was to preserve the very oppressive system he ended up consigning to the trash heap of history…
