Mikhail Gorbachev was a visionary leader. The refusal of the U.S. to help Russia when the Soviet Union collapsed was typical of America's arrogance and lack of visionary foreign policy. If we had helped Gorbachev then, Russia's path would probably have not been toward a Putin.

Additionally, Extreme Socialists tried to illegally overthrow the Soviet Government and replace it with a new government similar to how the extreme variants of Socialism of previous fanatic leaders.

No idea why people are disagreeing with Williamson. Gorbachev's failures led to Yeltsin, who destroyed Russian democracy and appointed Putin. America did not do enough to help the country transition into a free market economy. This is the objective truth.

Oh really? Are you leaving out a lot of what he did and said on purpose? In many ways he was the worst political leader they had. Plunging the USSR into democracy without a solid plan.
