Mikhail Gorbachev was a visionary leader. The refusal of the U.S. to help Russia when the Soviet Union collapsed was typical of America's arrogance and lack of visionary foreign policy. If we had helped Gorbachev then, Russia's path would probably have not been toward a Putin.

Although Reagan & many others responded graciously to Gorbachev's concessions & overtures, the response & policy of our government overall was to seize & press the advantage. And that is a fact.

Stick to self help books. Soviet/Russian history is obviously way over your head.

The first sentence of this tweet is true. The rest is not. The US did not refuse to help Russia. And I am not sure Russia’s path would not have been toward Putin under a variety of scenarios.

Praising an authoritarian dictator as “visionary” is historical revisionism at best.

I agree Marianne. Notably on the global stage. The person you are replying to may not grasp that the origins of the Soviet Union's collapse probably preceded Gorbachev. Regardless, he his held in low esteem within Russia.

Except the U.S. did help. Billions of dollars of aid as well as other projects. You're spouting Kremlin propaganda that paints Russia as an innocent victim taken advantage of by the West. @uamemesforces @LivFaustDieJung
