I earned it Marianne. Big Difference. Training exercises days on end. 12 hour shifts. Served overseas 3 yrs of my tour. Away from my nation, my home, my family. I served and earned it the hard way! That is the point!

The GI Bill is the point! That was govt funding your education. So the rest of us DID pay for your education. FDR wanted it for everyone but the G.I. Bill for veterans was all he was able to get through Congress. It helped build a middle-class then and would help rebuild it now

I don’t begrudge you that. I’m glad you got it. But many people join the military because it’s the *only* way they feel they’ll get a chance at higher education. And that is wrong.

The mental and physical discipline of the military is not wrong. A sense of responsibility to repay a debt is honorable. Part of being resourceful is using the avenues that are available. Americans are resourceful.
