I grew up in poverty in the mountains of NC. I ate out of a garden, lived in government housing, shopped at yard sales. I joined the Air Force. Earned my GI BILL. I attained 4 degrees and created my own version of the American Dream. I am not responsible for your student debt.

The GI Bill is the point! That was govt funding your education. So the rest of us DID pay for your education. FDR wanted it for everyone but the G.I. Bill for veterans was all he was able to get through Congress. It helped build a middle-class then and would help rebuild it now

Don't forget the government housing she mentions....
Honey she paid her bill with her service! You obviously never served
Then have him refund all the money I spent paying for my education.
She worked it off serving her country, you just proved her point
I had to get shot at in Iraq to get my benefits. What did these people do to get their loans absorbed by taxpayers?
You have to serve at least 3 years in the military to get the Post-9/11 GI Bill. What are the beneficiaries of this handout giving up?
No there is a difference between a handout and an earned benefit. My first tour alone we spent on 24 hour duty every 3 days. Serving on a fast attack submarine weekly ops, 2 month spec ops, 6 months of every 18 kept me constantly at sea away from the comforts of home.

I've had this discussion with vets before who hate "socialism." They refuse to admit (or learn) that the G.I. Bill is a highly successful social program created by FDR. The idea that they benefited from a socialist program sends them straight into denial.
