Fascism hasn't gotten a foothold in America due to an inherent desire for fascism. Fascism has gotten a foothold in America because democracy has failed to deliver. Many who say they believe in democracy the most have for 40 yrs stood idly by while far too many people suffered.

Democracy is the least desirable system. It allows those in the majority to force their beliefs on the minority. It's a great tool for would-be totalitarians like you and your friends.

So let's push the solution, @marwilliamson. A switch to using a combination of Nonpartisan Open Primaries and RCV would make the difference in making democracy work for people again. A great example of this is Alaska's system and Nevada's potential Final Five Voting system.

The real problem is we never had Democracy, which is majority rule via direct vote. And that may scare some people whose ideas are just terrible, but it scares the wealthy few, the Aristocrats of our world, terribly more.
