It’s terrible what has happened to Brittney Griner and I pray for her every day. At the same time, anyone who thinks people don’t get drug sentences just as draconian as that in this country are very naïve about what happens here. Free her, and free them.

Any actual examples of people being sentenced to 9 years in 2022 for a vape pen in America ?

Well said. We should be able to express sympathy for Brittney Griner AND those in U.S. who are unjustly incarcerated for drugs (who usually need treatment/support, not punishment).

Unwittingly or not (I think it was not), she broke the laws of a sovereign nation. She should be thankful she wasn't busted in the Philippines, which has the strictest drug laws in the world. Drug traffickers are sentenced to death for even less than a 1/3 of an oz of any drug.

Can we be compassionate for all of them?

Good point and ditto with US pointing to human rights violations China with our incarceration rate, indigenous people's batustans, support for Israel's bombing of Gaza, and the sucking up to Saudi Arabia and the sending of weapons for their war in Yemen.

Free Brittney Griner Now 😡😡😡

Kalief Browder was jailed at Rikers Island for 3 years for "allegedly" stealing a backpack. His case never went to trial. AG Ken Paxton was indicated on felony securities fraud 7 years ago and he's yet to see the inside of a jail cell or go to trial. I wonder why?
