Though our civilization is in fundamental decline at this point, the governing status quo will not disrupt itself. It would rather watch democracy fall than consider the possibility that its way has been the problem all along & that they are incapable of providing a solution.

Sending the abortion question back to the States for individuals to “vote” on is democracy. Creating a federal Constitutional right that can’t be voted on is Republicanism. Which do you prefer?

When the wealthy feel threatened they turn to authoritarianism. This is how it works, time and time again. People had better get wise to it because, boy howdy, we’re in the thick of it.

There are many who don’t want this to happen, but don’t know what to do. I want to study history re: how to turn the tide, but my energy goes to daily survival. Please share your thoughts on what would be effective. Donating, protesting, and voting don’t make a dent.

The status quo remains so long as the myopic, the childish, the selfish and the cowardly continue to empower the Dem Party while clinging to their “lesser evil/harm mitigation” delusion. You are the problem you describe.

Marianne, I've never been savvy or knowledgeable about political matters. There are only few things I really feel sure about. 1 I'm adamantly pro-choice. 2 I support LGBT rights, such as marriage and adopting children. 3 I believe in gun control laws that limit possession of guns

It's funny to me you're talking a monolithic "governing status quo" rather watching democracy fall than changing anything when in reality we have one party actively working to end democracy and the other trying to preserve it and willing to consider at least marginal change.
