Regardless of which side is in power, the parties spend all their energy making the other party look bad, rather than actually improving things.

Seems harsh given the political situation, the balance of power in the House and Senate, not to mention the Supreme Court, where anti-democracy, right wing fascists are prone to lambaste even long standing policies, public education, social security, as "communism."
