An economic system should exist to serve the people, people shouldn’t exist to serve an economic system.

Agreed! But can’t be done with our current system, overpaid and ineffective law makers that make laws to benefit themselves at our expense. Greed and power disguised with intimidation and violence. Unless we change abruptly and drastically, we’re doomed!

Polanyi wrote about the transition from market economy to market society. The idea that society should be independent from economy is right. But that should presuppose some forms of public interaction not based on money, that are actually absent, e.g. media, politics are funded.
