Talked with a German cousin last night about how every citizen there gets full healthcare and free education through college or tech school. It’s just their normal. She said “ I don’t understand why people in America say ‘socialism’ like it’s an insult.”

I don't understand why you say "free"

For people noting that these investments in the public good and the common wealth are not "free". Correct. They are public investments with huge future returns. Every thorough economic analysis shows that they boost the economy enormously.

Not entirely true. We don't just "get" full healthcare - we pay 14% of our monthly income to insurance providers in addition to taxes. It's not a socialized system.

On the bright side, it's much less an insult than, like, 30 years ago.

Until we prioritize people and planet over power and profit, any system will just be continued legalized exploitation.

One of the greatest gifts of the internet is to learn other people’s perspective. That and memes.

Teacher unions in America have destroyed what little learning has ever occurred. Free higher education would be more of the same.

Interesting comment on YouTube last night about FREE EDUCATION IN AMERICA. People still bitchin about WHITE PRIVILEGE. The poster said this was crap and I agree. "Where are the white people who have privilege?" #SOC119 #Privilege #WhitePrivilege #discrimination" on YouTube ---- Kids know nothing about discrimination, what racism is, and ZERO about America's generous "FREE" MONEY FOR EDUCATION. First, taxpayers pay $0.14 of every dollar to social svc programs for economically needy. Second, taxpayers pay into Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) as well as state's supplemental aid programs such as TAP in NYS - Tuition Assistance Program. Federal also offers SEOG - Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant. Other states hv supplemental programs under diff names. Colleges offer scholarships and grants & internships, including paid internships with employers or working for the college. NYS offers Excelsior program that pays for up to a two yr degree with only requirement that you must live and work in NYS for min. 4 yrs afterward. ALL OF THESE ARE FREE MONEY TO ALL STUDENTS. NONE HV TO BE PAID BACK. Low interest loans, reduced on campus meal programs, also available. Due to NYS shortage of construction workers of all kinds including associated trades such as electrician, plumbing, carpentry etc NYS offers free certificates or up to two yr degrees to learn a trade,. Got that? How bout some more *FREE* money cause I'm fuc*ing paying for YOU KIDS TO GO TO COLLEGE. There's trade unions for every job classification in America. You study and work alongside experts, get paid while doing so and at the end if u pass the tests, you've earned a trade for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. Electricians in NY make approx $65k per year in their SECOND YR. And then there's the lovely JOB CORP. THE FEDERAL JOB CORPS PROGRAM was started by President Johnson in the 1960s and today in 2023 costs about $300 BILLION dollars that WORKING TAXPAYERS PAY FOR EVERY YEAR. What's Job Corps? Youth who haven't finished high school for various reasons such as poor family life, poverty, poor performance. Job Corps pays for EVERYTHING: HOUSING, BOOKS, SCHOOLING, TRAINING FOR JOB OR TRADE, ALL MEALS, RESIDENTIAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES. *SHUT UP AND GET REAL* I haven't even started yet The US Military offers free education and all living expenses. AND there's Work Study programs. If you opt in as an independent student you can get Food Stamps also paid by us the working people. ALL OF THESE PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE REGARDLESS OF RACE, SEX, EVEN FOR UNDOCUMENTED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS! Get off your asses, get out there, get schooled, and pay me back you narcissistic brats, ALL my Social Security INVESTMENT FROM MY PAY CHECKS THAT I PAID INTO FOR YEARS SO I CAN RETIRE IN PEACE. -Retired Admissions Counselor and Career Transition Specialist

And currently you can get rail travel throughout Germany for 9 euros a month. And most of us survived 2 years of the pandemic by being paid to stay at home.

It’s not a bad thing when it’s done right, and for the people. However we here in America have to much greed, and corruption for Socialism to be done properly.
