Today I would say $1T. It was an important moment for me because the debate was in Detroit. I knew what Detroiters had shown me when I lived there, and I knew I would never forgive myself if I didn’t make the argument for reparations on the stage that night.

It was great to hear that coming from a presidential candidate. I'd much rather have a panel of economists and forensic historians determine what that number should be and over what time frame because the purpose is to repair the harm rather than illeviate guilt.
