In every society, the established elites have a vested interest in the status quo. From this fundamental axiom of human social organization, a ruling class ALWAYS emerges. I am growing to love you but start preaching Marxism - to which the axiom also applies - and I am gone.

The design of this current society is to build the exact opposite of an empowered citizenry. It's design makes citizens dependent on oil and other mechanisms of society. We should really be building local communities to distribute dependence. The government will not fix it.
