Carter put solar panels on the top of the WH; Reagan’s first act was to take them down. If we’d gone green when Carter first wanted,if we had hi-speed rail &other forms of mass transit the way we should, none of this whoredom for oil & desecration of the planet would be happening

Then Bill Clinton said "if ya can't beat 'em join 'em" and so the Democratic Party became the party of Reagan and GWB. Now we get to choose from woke-right or MAGA-right.

If we survive into the 22nd Century (which is pretty doubtful, the way things are going) and future history books are based on objective observation (not influenced by #ThePowersThatBe: VERY unlikely), Jimmy Carter will be acknowledged as the 2nd-best POTUS of the C20th after FDR

Ah but what tricks big oil can play on willing sheep. EIA statistics show that demand for gasoline is down 75% from pre-Covid & refinery output is way above demand. So what is going on? Is it monopoly pricing power? How about we threaten to nationalize the refineries.

I recall reading a 1980 state of Oregon Department of Energy report on the potential for renewable energy development. We could have had the energy equivalent of 7 Trojan nuclear power plants from a fraction of wind power in the state.
Dukakis ran for President on a high speed rail platform.

I attended the 1986 World Expo on Transportation in Vancouver back in the day. The USA's display was an embarrassment reflecting where we're at today. There was no future plan, no grand ideas, just - cars, cars, cars. Sadly, our modern visionaries are the likes of Bezos and Musk
