The reason Americans don’t trust our institutions is because the institutions have proven themselves untrustworthy. From Congress to SCOTUS to WH to big business, institutions expected to be at least on some level responsible to the people have been exploitative and even cruel.

The system is broken and I’m not confident it can be saved. I suppose taking money out of the equation could be the beginning of healing, but such a move doesn’t seem possible in a land where wealth is literarily worshipped.
