Nothing stunts public discourse more than thinking we should only talk to, or even respect, those with whom we agree about every little thing.

Respect on a basic level yes, respect for their ideas, hell no.

There are people whose ideas I respect sometimes even when I come to a different conclusion based on the same facts. I think it’s intellectually dangerous when any of us think we have a monopoly on the truth.

Some would argue nothing stunts public discourse more than talking to people/ respecting people acting in bad faith, pretending they're well meaning, legitimizing the illegitimate in society by acting like evil people might be reasonable or have a point but, agree to disagree

That doesn’t just stunt discourse, it stunts the country. But it’s all the more reason to connect with people with whom there is a basic alliance of values.

On that theme, I would like to talk to you about the social and emotional damage that has been done in NYC to all workers who have declined to take a Covid vaccine. I am one of them.

It's difficult for me to relate to people who would use aggression and force to achieve their political aims.

Yes ... and when you talk with someone who thinks differently from you ... go slowly ... let them express themselves ... and ... as happened to me recently ... you might get a big surprise!

I’m listening. I’m here for discourse. So someone tell me why the author of a book called “A Return to Love” vehemently supports the murder of innocent babies living in the mother’s womb?

I mean it seems nice, but it sounds a little like fascism to me.
