What kind of society have we created that so many people are more eager to protect the right to own a military style assault weapon than to do everything possible to protect the life of a child? America’s collective gun fetish IS a mental health issue.

Because we can't care about others when we must compete to earn a living. The intelligent thing to do would be to first provide everything they need to be healthy, happy contributors to society. Then we can talk about systems of control.

"What kind of society have we created?" We didnt. We were born into a dangerous, exploitive, volatile system, and taking away people's means of self defense isnt ever going to be popular.
