Even if the people had no right to own any kind of gun, the people who could own them, the cops, did nothing to protect the children, so not sure your argument holds water.

This has always been our society. The entire nation was stolen piece by piece with violence , much of it gun violence. And to this day guns and threat of violence is used as deterrence. We never cared for lives.
