What kind of society have we created that so many people are more eager to protect the right to own a military style assault weapon than to do everything possible to protect the life of a child? America’s collective gun fetish IS a mental health issue.

The majority of gun owners have guns to protect life of family. What kind of society would we live in if nobody had guns to protect their family and criminals were walking around with weapons, including guns, knowing they can overpower any household.

This is not a conversation about banning guns. It is a conversation specifically about banning assault weapons.

In most countries I don’t think the access to weapons would create that. You have a cultural problem so talk about that too.

How about a real trade off. A ban on all weapons which take high velocity rounds and have a rapid fire feature - idea is to still allow hunting rifles. In exchange, a ban on ALL abortions after 12 weeks. Easily pass if each issue is as important as each side says it is.

It is not our entire society it the republicans aka obstructionist and controlled by the NRA a political organization that bought the republican vote.

nra says guns save lives the question comes to mind can machine guns save even more lives? If everyone walked around with full auto sub machine guns think of the lives saved..

It tells us everything about the great American psychosis: that white male patriarchy & gun nuts -that ever shrinking demographic- are more important than everyone else in the nation, especially teachers & school children. @NRA @GOPGovs

A society with a great distrust of those in power, for one. A country that would be nearly impossible to conquer on the ground, too. Also, a country with a horrible mental health problem, especially for our youth. Unique and heartbreaking. Lots of ways to come at that.

I don't think it is entirely protecting guns. It is distrust of politician's solutions.
