FDR’s Civilian Conservation Corps was similar to the idea of A Green New Deal. “I propose to create a civilian conservation corps to be used in simple work… More important, however, then the material gains will be the moral and spiritual value of such work.” 1/2

Well, the CCC was a “New Deal” program so not exactly a coincidence.

To think there was a time when politicians factored “moral and spiritual value” into their policy agendas.

I was in the YCC every summer when I was in high school. I loved it and I learned about the CCC. Here in Arkansas they did some major work and many of it is still evident today in our parks. They made some awesome stuff that blends with nature

Putting people to work where the ... "material gains will be the moral and spritural value of such work"... Great Words from a Great Man.

I am endlessly dismayed at how rarely conservatives value conservation (beyond hunting clubs), and how rarely those who do value conservation call them out on it. Why aren’t we centering keeping America’s natural heritage great, as a key aspect of patriotism?

I highly recommend Ann Pettifor’s “The Case for the Green New Deal” from Verso books. Ann is a macroeconomist and one of the original authors of the Green New Deal - she’s also a deep expert on FDR. Would be an amazing interview!
