The kids moved out a while ago and are estranged from mom and dad who still go at it nightly. If it weren't for the forgiveness element and sheer empathy for their condition the kids would've just moved on completely. Love keeps the family close I suppose

It's worse even: one parent is violent and abusive, while the other dispenses hugs and advice to not make him/her angry then the abuse will stop.
