Since that time, trillions of dollars have been spent by the wealthiest interests - what FDR called “economic royalists” - to convince people that wanting the government to help them better their lives is asking for socialist tyranny. In many ways the propaganda worked. 2/4

But there are signs that things are changing. People are seeing what’s been done to them. But corporatist forces are doing everything possible to defeat progressive candidates, bust unions, squash environmental activism and suppress civil liberties. 3/4

Congressional primaries are happening right now. This is the moment to get involved, to send people to Washington who’ll take on the real tyranny of our time - corporate tyranny - and break its stranglehold on the US government. Candidatesummit.com 4/4

Still a majority want those things, the reason we don't have it is because the US is NOT a Democracy (which is one thing and one thing only, majority rule via direct voting).

According to the Schlesinger cyclic theory of US history, the US alternates between liberal & conservative periods, public-purpose & private-interest ones, expanding & containing democracy ones, wrongs-of-many & rights-of-few ones, human-rights & property-rights ones.

FDR/Wallace New Deal, Four Freedoms, Second Bill of Rights: I'm from the government and I'm here to help. Seems Reagan and neolib Dems gaslit Americans into fighting against robust social safety net - against their own best interest, the common good. ☹️
