If the rich saw how the poor live in America, there would be more compassion. If the poor saw how the rich live in America, there would be more rage.

Nope. They’d just want to be their friend.

There is very little intermingling between the rich and poor anymore. Our cities are segregated, and there are no commons anymore, no town squares or even bars, where people met different classes.

Isn't that a global issue. Not just America?

Factually false. The rich are well aware of how the poor live. They don't care. When the poor "encroach" on the lives of the rich the result is more laws restricting the poor- not more compassion.

The rich do see how the poor live. They don't care.

The rich know how the poor live. They don't care. At a certain point, wealth begins to reinforce acquisition of more wealth (there are actual studies on this) so that this becomes a behavior pattern. They then dehumanize the poor and working class to justify their behaviors.

If the rich could get away with it, they'd own slaves.

The rich blame the poor for their lot in life. They will not develop compassion.
