in 2014 the GOP controlled the House and the Senate and supported a group of Democrats who wanted to retain the filibuster. a group of Democrats argued in favor of retaining it. as they should have. the process provides a vital check on abuse of power by the dominant party.

Fear of abandoning the filibuster is a lie that's told by neoliberals. If the filibuster was removed, then all of sudden voting rights, anti corruption legislation, child care. Medicare for all and every other policy popular with the majority of Americans would be voted on.
