Corporate profit has replaced democracy as the governing principle of our society. This is a forty year aberration that calls for a fundamental course-correction.

How is it an aberration? The US has a long history of the wealthy maintaining control of the democratic process. Pretending that things were that much better at some previous time is ahistorical and unhelpful. It’s okay to say β€œthis system doesn’t work, we need something better”

I’d argue that goes back to the founding of this country, though. What with slavery and only rich landowners having a vote in anything.
