1/ When I was at Columbia University last week, I said I remembered when student protests occupied Low Library in the 1960's. One of the young women told me that the university doesn't like to tell today's student too much about "their mistakes of the past."

2/ I was like, Wait, what? To me the occupation of Low Library was like an eternal badge of honor, spurring other protests and becoming a symbol for student opposition to the Viet Nam War. WITHOUT WHICH THE WAR WOULD NOT HAVE ENDED.

3/ So the system says: a generation that took on the US war machine & ended a war in Southeast Asia was "mistaken," but students getting out of college straddled with debt, riddled with anxiety & desperately scrambling for the best consultant gig are a sign of societal progress.

4/ I sense today's college students are inching very, very close to not buying it...

Our systems of governance and education only want us to protest the items they have sanctioned. We are the elite's useful fools.

Colleges need to be careful ... If students realize they can actually be happy without the stress, the long commutes and meeting the expectations of others ... they might just ... Oped Out!

We need affordable education for those that choose that option, not free education. I would like a free EV too but I have the option to buy/get a loan for a used cheaper gas powered car too. Both get you from point A to Point B.

I was in the neighborhood too at the time. The next year I went to Columbia. Protests are an important part of American society and changed a lot of things. The current exponents of the Orwellian Nightmare don’t like these thoughts among others.
