The Denver program to send social workers instead of police (STAR) has responded to over 2,200 calls low-level/intox/MH calls. They have never called for police back-up due to a safety issue. Never. Think about that.

Orlando鈥檚 program is doing really well too, and police want to expand it. In its first year, there were no arrests and no use of force, and police were only called twice because those two people were harming themselves. Now we just need the mayor to commit to funding the program.
