I want Medicare for all as much as the next progressive, but government by emergency declarations is a scary and slippery slope.

If Covid killing almost a million people was not a real emergency then I don’t know what is. If the ecosystem imploding isn’t a climate emergency I don’t know what is. The slippery slope is ignoring that.

I'm definitely not suggesting either of those things is *not* an emergency. The question is whether it's an emergency on the scale of effectively suspending the Constitution to take action, and whether that action is going to have meaningful results...

and more to the point, whether that action opens the door for future Presidents to abuse emergency declarations.
