Every time I see a picture of a woman fleeing Ukraine with her children, I think of the additional trauma she’s experiencing leaving her husband, lover, brother, father, other friends behind.

It doesn’t matter whether or not that picture is propaganda. There are enough pictures of women fleeing with their children, and that is not propaganda.

It matters whether it’s all there to paint a picture to make you sympathetic when our idiotic and hawkish admin takes on both Russia and China. Because that’s what’s happening.

Counterpoint: it does matter. Because propaganda takes empathy for mothers and children and turns it into bigoted support for imperialism and war.
