Absofuckinlutely. Every policy the world has followed regarding nuclear power has relied on a distinctly fragile premise: that no insane person would get near it. Time to get over that now.

Today would be a very good day to stop the construction of new nuclear power plants and move to decommission nuclear power plants throughout the world.

We can disagree about an ultimate conclusion here, but there's no way you can call the fear "inexplicable" or "illogical."
The fear, as I said, is not based on the safety of nuclear energy per se. It is based on the fact that human beings have not yet evolved to a place of wisdom and moral responsibility as a species that makes this a zero-risk proposition. There is literally no room for error here.
