Absofuckinlutely. Every policy the world has followed regarding nuclear power has relied on a distinctly fragile premise: that no insane person would get near it. Time to get over that now.
Today would be a very good day to stop the construction of new nuclear power plants and move to decommission nuclear power plants throughout the world.

Relax, no one has any plans to allow you near the controls of a nuclear plant.

and the @nytimes does an editorial today advocating the Germans start focusing on getting nukes going to cushion the impacts of possibly losing Russia energy...

Bummer. Luv u Mary. I can’t vote for who has this stance. Nuclear energy & nuclear weapons R 2 sides of the same coin. Wish more people knew this. DOD & DOE know.
Like the policy of mutual assured destruction. The idea that Russia and US can obliterate each other. It works as long as everyone is sane and sees nuclear annihilation as a bad thing. If world leaders are nuts, we're kinda screwed.

Either you believe in the climate crisis or you fear the risks of nuclear energy. It's either-or. There is no "energy stops being used" option. Decommissioning and halting construction means, ineluctably, sunk carbon + massive oil, coal & gas substitutes.

You have a right to be wrong on this take, Marianne.

The level of fearmongering concerning the use of nuclear energy is insane. Nuclear energy is the future but the " Oil " Corporations wont have it. The sooner we set our fears to the side and adopt a rational approach to the subject the better off we will be.

back slowly away, marianne. anyone who spends any time looking at the problem knows that to decarbonize the grid, you need nuclear and lots of it

The hard truth is we need to keep improving battery technology far beyond what it is currently. Nuclear power provides an off ramp from fossil fuels while we do it. The raw resources for our current battery tech exploit poorer countries and their environs.

“We need to move away from fossil fuels!” “No, not like that!”
