Absofuckinlutely. Every policy the world has followed regarding nuclear power has relied on a distinctly fragile premise: that no insane person would get near it. Time to get over that now.
Today would be a very good day to stop the construction of new nuclear power plants and move to decommission nuclear power plants throughout the world.

Nuclear power is safe, effective, and better for the Earth than most other forms of reliable energy. Until they can make some "alternative" energy affordable and reliable, it's the best we have.

I wonder how much coal and gas all of these plants kept in the ground?

I'm looking at the transfer of wealth Retire the nuclear dollars spent for deterrent and weapons and exceptionally spend dollars in Scottsboro, Alabama, a former TVA experiment; would start 1000 job, new-age century energy center. Nuclear infrastructure where we want dollars.

So where do you propose the world get its electricity? You don’t like fossil fuels. You don’t like nuclear. Renewables can’t generate nearly what we need. Should we all live in caves?

...also, that power would always be available to cool the spent fuel so the zirconium-clad rods don't create an inextinguishable nuclear fire.....

Worth noting that Nuclear power has killed less people than any other powersource.

With the french advancements in reusing nuclear waste, I think this is the absofuckinlutely wrong direction to head. Retrofit every plant, everywhere. What are we gonna do, Marianne? Coal, frack, & crude still? There isn't sufficient battery tech for wind & solar.

The 500,000 tons of spent fuel that lies at hundreds of reactor sites is enough insanity to last us for the thousands of years it remains highly toxic.
