1/ $780 billion a year is our military budget. We invaded Iraq although it never did anything to us. We stayed in Afghanistan at least 10 years longer than we needed to, doing nothing to bolster a democratic government.

2/ Yet now, with Ukrainians at risk of being slaughtered en masse by a madman, there’s not more we could do and could have done to help them defend themselves?

Not really. If anything, the US foreign policy is mad! The US has overturned the governments in many mid-east countries over the past decades, starting in 1953 with Iran. Then Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, etc.

With the Syrian attempted overthrow, Russia helped the Syrians, with the Ukraine government overthrowing by the US a few years ago, Russia is now defending the mostly Russian population in East Ukraine.

Putin has Satan 2 missiles. That’s about it.

And the US told the Ukranians to give up their nukes in exchange for protection. Will any other country building nukes every give them up, ever believe the 'promises' of the west?

No one is "at risk of being slaughtered en masse by a madman." Please don't add to this madness and read some history of this very complex issue. I like and respect you, but this hyperbole is unnecessary.

Your take on Russia's invasion into Ukraine is all wrong. It is influenced by US propaganda. Ukraine is the most strategic geopolitical spot on the planet. It separates NATO and Russia. Russia will never tolerate Ukraine becoming NATO.

Eastern Ukrainians have been being slaughtered en masse by their fellow Ukrainians. Where was your outrage then?

Perhaps we could have used sensible politics to avoid it in the first place

Everything we did to help them "defend themselves" got them into this mess. Ukraine has a very large Russian minority. They either have to live in peace with them or let those areas leave (as Crimea tried to back in 1991). Having Russian-hating Nazis in government was insane.
