Chuck Todd just asked a Russian opposition politician if he thinks Putin is a "rational actor." No one who preemptively, without provocation invades another country (including Bush and Cheney) should be considered a rational actor.

Yes, self-aggrandizing, homicidal aggression toward Ukraine marks Putin as “irrational” (and other modifiers many times worse), but I wonder if Chuck Todd ever asked a Trumpist the same question. If DT had won a 2nd term, he might have invaded Mexico instead of building a wall.

So if you were dealing with an irrational actor, would you start off by trying to freeze his assets and shut his country off from the world banking system? Seems like that might get a bad reaction.

So including Biden and Obama then too, right?

Oh, I think it's possible to be evil and rational. But you're probably right, Putin isn't rational, he's deluded.

@marwilliamson there’s been provocation for eight years and I’m surprised you don’t know about that! I guess it’s sad when a possible Presidential candidate doesn’t know the whole story ! Or the pain that has been suffered by the people of east Ukraine that asked Russia for help!

this is such a stupid narrative i'm see peddled around right now. just bc the actions may not be justified, it does mean they are senseless or with no possible explanation as you present them. and we should understand that before we expect to move forward without catastrophe.

Hitler acted in accordance with his stated goals. That didn't make him a rational actor.
