I am heartbroken for the female activists now being abducted by the Taliban in Afghanistan, and remain furious at how the US did not even try to prioritize their escape when we made our exit.

The US didn't try to prioritize their escape because the invasion of Afghanistan was not about women. The story of women only became important after our exit from that country in an attempt to frame the war as a civilizational project. That, I believe, is the reason! 😄
