💡REVOLUTIONARY—I cannot stress how epic @costplusdrugs is—there are now >100 generic 💊 sold for often ~90% off list price (sometimes 140x lower) because @mcuban’s company has cut out profiteering big pharma + pharmacy middlemen. Generics sold at cost +15%. HUGE!
Ht @VincentRK
We need to do something about prescription drug prices. I have written and advocated for lower prescription drug prices for years.
I applaud @mcuban for starting @costplusdrugs to provide prescription drugs at low prices.

2) Example— @costplusdrugs’s imatinib is offered for $200 a year. Which is what it currently costs in India 🇮🇳. However big Pharma charges $120,000 a year, and even with Good Rx coupons is still ~ $2000 a year minimum. @mcuban has cut that down again to just holy effing $200!

3) that said, it seems @costplusdrugs can only do that for standard chemical based drugs— which you can easily make exact copies via standard chemistry. And he is just buying and selling authorized generics already approved for sale in USA. But not all drugs available this way.

5) but we really need to work on insulin most of all… it’s literally highway robbery prices and corporate profit causing suffering and deaths with insulin prices right now 👇
ATROCIOUS big pharma price gouging of insulin:
This crying mother can’t afford the $1000 for her son’s insulin.
📌yet, it only costs pharma $5 to produce.
📌Insulin was invented 100 years ago by Fred Banting—who donated patent for $1 to make it free for all.
Let that sink in.

6) 100 years later… life critical insulin should not be costing $1000 and bankrupting families to the brink. It’s affordable elsewhere in the world… except for profit corporate dominated USA.
Insulin was invented ~100 years ago, and its patent sold for $1.
“Do you know the reason why [insulin is] $1,000 with insurance?” ~@AOC
There is no reason for insulin to cost $21 in Canada for a 10 ml bottle, while it costs a mortgage payment in the US.
