The purpose of a government is to serve its people - not thwart, punish, and disregard the needs of all but a few of them.

I watched The Third Man the other night. Graeme Greene. Orson Wells at one point has Joseph Cotton up top on the ferris wheel and says "Look at all those people down there. They're just dots to the governments."

The purpose of government is to be a monopoly of violence against predators so we don’t form posses and round them up ourselves. I don’t need anything else in the way service.
