I’m teaching a college writing class that has a unit where students have to argue for which civic stance creates the most freedom, and each time I have to explain why there’s a big difference between corporate “Democrats” and the “liberals” of the FDR years.
It's been a steady drift to "the right," for decades. My phrase (similar to your tweet, MW) for the last 10-15 years has been Conservative Is The New Moderate. Then there's Ralph's phrase: Slow motion corporate coup d'etat. As George Clooney once said: We're in a tight spot :)
