Almost every developed country except ours has universal healthcare. Almost every developed country except ours has some form of free college. How is it possible that Americans have been trained to expect so little?

Like you say, we need a economy that works for us, not the other way around. People really believe trickle down works.

One of the most threatening things for the ruling class is to allow the classes seen as beneath them to be well educated, so they make it unaccessible. If the masses are dumb and preoccupied with survival they're less likely to get any ideas about changing society for the better.

It's because Americans have to show that they don't need help and can do it all themselves. Ingrained in the DNA almost, the cost so high and yet the thought of socialised care is frightening. We need community, we need each other...
