Almost every developed country except ours has universal healthcare. Almost every developed country except ours has some form of free college. How is it possible that Americans have been trained to expect so little?

I blame the 330+ years of teaching about the rugged individualism that built this country. It's brainwashed people and led them to forget the ideas of a social contract and the common good. We've been taught that America is different from other countries. You can sat that again

We were also one of the last countries on earth to abolish slavery. We haven't exactly been at the knife's edge of morality as a people since...well..since we got here.

As a Canadian, it seems Americans are conditioned to call that socialism and equate that to communism. But most don’t pay for Healthcare out of pocket, their employer pays.
