1/ On the subject of Latin America and the migrant crisis, as on so many issues, neither major party is willing to do the level of truth-telling required for us to truly unravel the problem.

2/ For decades the US government has done more to serve profit maximization for American corporations exploiting Latin America than to serve genuinely democratic ideals. We have even done so violently, in many ways to the detriment of genuinely democratic forces.

3/ Having in many ways obstructed rather than served the forces that would better the lives of so many people in Latin America over the last 50 years, the US has thereby contributed to the suffering of millions who are now banging on our door. Karma much?

USA has definitely made mistakes in LA but to say the other side would have "bettered the lives" is BS. In some places the only difference between the Socialist and the Nationalist is whether you have to bow or kneel to military.

Don't forget it's a "Catholic" country. Like the Philippines there are hundreds of thousands of unwanted and unloved children. Women have no full rights and command of their bodies; birth control is a sin and forget about abortion. NAFTA was supposed to manage outsized problem.

Yes ... We ... THE USA ... have an exploitative history ... pretty much everywhere in the world ... WHY ... because ... it's always been ... all about the money

is nature not sorting it out? And can that be an observable resolution here? 🤔 Simply letting cause-effect run its course
