There’s something strange about *celebrating* the fact that we got it together enough to fix our roads and bridges. Shouldn’t that be something that in an advanced civilization you do repeatedly and like clockwork - the way they feed the war machine?

Never take roads and bridges (or for that matter, safety, security, or enough food) for granted. But we are taking all those things for granted. We have lost all appreciation for what the miracle of civilization brings us.

With a national debt approaching $30 trillion, a projected deficit of $2 trillion even without BIF, a sputtering economy, and projected high inflation, we should be thinking hard about any more ambitious spending plans.
