Saying we shouldn’t cancel the college loan debt because it would be unfair to the people who already paid theirs, is like saying we shouldn’t legalize marijuana because it would be unfair to the people who served prison time for it. It’s ridiculous.

Weed is being legalize because of tax revenue AND ppl convicted aren't released from prison. ONLY 14.8% of Americans have student loan debt which is why majority of ppl are against forgiveness. Student loan debt epidemic is a myth! BEFORE you respond, do research!

I'm tired of watching people fail at their flawed logic. The "they shouldn't have it better than we did" crowd needs to kick rocks. Imagine if people were against a cure for polio or the measles just because there was no cure for past generations?!? 😠😡🤬

I agree. At my present rate of repayment of my loan (with interest), I will take it to my grave. No relief in sight.

These banks own the government, why would they do it to themselves

The unfair part comes from those who already paid having to pay again (taxes) to cover the debt of those who are getting it cancelled. No such thing as free money. Somebody has to pay it. Just shifts the debt from one person to another.

I love me some MW as much as anyone, but (as others have said) this is a bad analogy. How can being violently forced into prison be compared to voluntarily taking out a student loan? 🤔

Marianne, I'd like to reiterate the power that Biden has here. If he would instruct the DoE to report all student loans in good standing to credit bureaus, that alone would boost millennial buying power. Wouldn't cost the country a dime.

This whole thing feels like a sop to the rich. There are poor people w student loans, but the majority of the debt is held by people w advanced or post grad degrees. It also doesn’t touch endowments, so university have these huge investment funds, but we don’t talk about their $$

Forgiving student debt is an investment in society. Giving billionaires tax breaks does nothing for society.
