Saying we shouldn’t cancel the college loan debt because it would be unfair to the people who already paid theirs, is like saying we shouldn’t legalize marijuana because it would be unfair to the people who served prison time for it. It’s ridiculous.

How about we cancel Mortgage or Car Loan debt? Imagine what that would do for the low-middle class? or cancel all CC debt over $1000? Saying we shouldn't cancel these debts because it's unfair to people who pay off their debts is ridiculous.

I paid off all my student loan debt myself and put myself through graduate school, and I still hope and wish the government cancels student loan debt. Canceling student loan debt would lift up so many people that we’d all be lifted up.

No, it is like saying those who did prison time should do more for those who now don't have to. The government can't just payoff loans. That is taxpayer money.

I’ve heard a similar sentiment from some seniors who are on Medicare. They feel as though they earned it and don’t think others should “just get it”. But with any type of progress you have people who didn’t get to experience it before. That shouldn’t stand in the way of change.

agree. the reason we shouldn't cancel college debt is that the borrowers signed a contract agreeing to the terms. the academic and financial institutions fulfilled their obligations so now it's time for them to fulfill theirs. to cancel that debt obligation is ridiculous.

Extremely poor comparison. One is someone entering into a business agreement with their eyes wide-open. X money for X education. The other is a racist government attacking its people due to poor policies and attempts at control or a shady capitalism economy run amuck.

Public service can be a way to pay down college debt. That’s fair to everybody. How about the people that didn’t go to college because of the cost?

What about all those who never went to college bc if cost? Why not make education free for future generations? If you paid for it at least your children won’t. Nobody would feel like a fool for working hard & saving to pay their loans off whilst others may have travelled instead

Bad analogy. Taking out a loan wasn't against the law as dumb as that law is. Bad analogy aside, something should be done. A good starting place would be to apply interest paid to the principal. I have paid more than my balance in interest.

So expunge pot inmates’ records, say we’re sorry; those were the rules back then. As teachers who sacrificed so we could pay for our children’s education, I take issue with the unevenness of a Loan Forgiveness Policy. That would encourage other irresponsible behavior.
