The idea that using taxpayer money to support people in living lives of the greatest creativity and productivity means supporting an entitlement mentality among the poor, is an expression of the most outrageous entitlement mentality among the rich and powerful that I can imagine.

Ms. Williamson, all altruism aside, what you are suggesting is prelude to communism. Which comes at a price - loss of personal freedom. Reality is a zero sum game.

Quite the opposite. Using taxpayer money to support the quality of life for one’s citizens is not a prelude to communism, but withholding such support is a prelude to fascism.

Thank you. As I said, reality is a zero sum game. Excessive measures without restrain in any direction often have unintended bad outcome. We should not do away with social safety nets but make them available to individuals only under exceptional situations for a limited time.
