This argument needs to start with advocates admitting that this debt cannot be “canceled” and make an argument for why taxpayers should take on the payments. Lying about what you want from the start will make it much harder to achieve and make people far angrier after the fact

Forgive $50k and reset the rest. Doing an instant rehabilitation program will help people pay the rest off quickly. It will raise credit rates and allow thousands and thousands of people to buy homes and take part in the economy

Doesn’t fix the problem which is that the inflated cost of a college education. Debt forgiveness is a bandaid for a select few and doesn’t help current nor future generations
