Mainstream news reporters attend briefings by State Department, White House and Pentagon spokespeople and then report it like it’s news. That’s not news, guys!! It’s basically state run TV.

Agreed, Noam Chomsky made this abundantly clear in Manufacturing Consent. The news media doesn't challenge the material it's given, which isn't how journalism works. Part of journalism is reporting facts, but not everything said by the government is fact.
